Welcome to Parent Carer Forum Devon

Parents and carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within Devon local authority. Our aim is to make sure that services provided by education, health and care meet the needs of children with SEND and their families.

What We DoContact Us

Build Understanding

Share the lived experience of SEND families with strategic decision-makers & service providers in Devon.

Build Parent Power

Work in partnership to influence decision making and services, so they can best meet the needs of families.

Get Together

We organise events and opportunities for parent carers to get together and have their say.

About Us

We are parents and carers of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We are all volunteers who want to make things better for the families, children and young people of Devon.

We connect with parents across the county and this helps us to understand the wide picture of what life is really like for families – identifying problems as well as what’s working well.

We work in partnership with the Local Authority (LA), the NHS and other professionals to make sure that services in Devon are accessible and meet the needs of children and their families.

Our Plans for the Future

Connect with more parent carers
Hear from seldom heard groups
Recruit more PCFD Reps
The global pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but SEND families have been particularly affected. Devon County Council and Devon CCG have supported us with grant funding to provide 1000 wellbeing packs to families of children and young people with SEND in Devon in 2021. Information on how to claim yours will be sent out in our newsletter to members – sign up for yours here: [link to joining page]
PCFD now has a base! Thanks to some extra funding from the Department for Education, we have just moved into an office in Teignbridge Business Centre near Bovey Tracey. We’re really looking forward to welcoming parent carers for meetings once we’re allowed. We’re also hoping the office will be a space for parent carers to visit, access a computer or the internet and meet other parent carers.

We need to adapt

Right now we are in unknown times, and education, health and care are needing to adapt and change their response in how to meet the needs of our children and families. It is really important to hear what’s working well and also what is difficult right now, and through the forum’s regular meetings and conversations with education health and care we can feed back in the lived experience of Devon families during the COVID19 pandemic.
